Bus blaze in Kerzers kills at least six

A devastating bus fire in the Swiss town of Kerzers has left at least six people dead and several others injured.
The blaze erupted on Tuesday evening at about 18:25 local time in Kerzers (French: Chiètres), in the canton of Fribourg, roughly 20km from Bern.
Police said at least three victims were taken to hospital and that a rescuer was also hurt while responding to the incident. Emergency teams remain on the scene as investigations continue.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire and are probing whether it was started deliberately.
Unconfirmed reports suggested someone may have poured gasoline over themselves, but officials said that could not be immediately verified. Local video showed the bus engulfed in flames, and residents reported seeing a large column of smoke.
The vehicle had reportedly been travelling from Düdingen, about 17km south of Kerzers.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed his shock and sorrow on X, mourning the lives lost in the tragedy. The incident comes less than a year after a deadly New Year’s Eve fire at a ski resort that claimed 41 lives.
