If you’re planning your summer holidays and want to save some cash where you can, then accommodation might not be the first thing you think of - especially not five star hotels. But new research from Which? has revealed the cheapest luxury hotels across the globe.

Travel experts sifted through listings for hotels that were advertised as five stars on Hotels.com. Researchers excluded any hotels with a lower customer rating than eight out of 10, or properties in especially hard-to-reach locations. The cheapest hotel out of the 76 countries Which? looked at was the Emerald Bay Hotel & Spa in Nha Trang, Vietnam. For the bargain price of £22 a night, guests can enjoy sea views on a roof top terrace as well as access to a private beach. One guest called the hotel a “hidden gem”.

Vietnam is a gorgeous destination famed for its rich culture and incredible experiences like the Ha Giang Loop - A 370km road trip undertaken on motorbikes that takes you past jaw dropping scenery over four days.

One of the most incredible places to visit in Vietnam is Han Son Doong - the largest cave in the world. It’s more than 200 metres high - which means it’s big enough to fit a 40-storey skyscraper - and the tunnels are five kilometres long. It’s so massive it even has its own climate and a jungle inside it. Clouds form in its caverns, thanks to the change in temperatures from the hot air outside meeting the cooler air inside the cave.

However, it’s not exactly easy to reach. To visit this amazing cave you’ll need to trek through the jungle for half a day to get there, and you’ll have to wade knee deep through rivers to reach this jaw-dropping location.

It’s also pretty exclusive - Only 450 are allowed to visit the cave in Ke Bang National Park each year and to combat overtourism and protect this natural wonder, visitors can only work with one tour operator - Oxalis - who work with the Vietnamese government officials to ensure the cave is protected.

However, if you choose to visit Vietnam and experience its wild beauty, you can rest easy in your cheap luxury hotel and make sure you’re ready for the next day of exploration.

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel said: “A five-star hotel may seem too expensive for the average holidaymaker, but we have found impressive levels of luxury for as little as £22 per night.

“If you can afford the flight, South East Asia has the cheapest five-star hotels, but even if you don’t want to travel so far, there are plenty of affordable options closer to home.”
