Argentina has reignited fears of an invasion in the Falklands Islands as he declared "the fight will not cease until our flag flies again" over the archipelago. On the 43rd anniversary of the Falklands War, President Javier Milei's government reiterated its claim to sovereignty and called for a restoration of "respect and dignity" to the armed forces.

The Office of the President said: "Argentina's unwavering claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas, reaffirming its commitment to this historic cause." In an official statement, the Government asserted that "the legitimate claim of sovereignty must be supported by concrete actions and not mere speeches." Mr Milei previously stressed he would not invade the islands or spark a conflict with the UK in order to regain their control.

It added: "Recognition and respect towards the Armed Forces constitute a fundamental pillar to strengthen our position in the international arena.

"The first step to advancing our demands is to honour those who have historically fought and given their lives for them.

"A year ago, the President announced to the Armed Forces and Malvinas Veterans the end of an era where politics stigmatised and devalued them.

"With this Government, a process of national reconciliation has begun that restores to our forces the respect and dignity denied to them for decades. This decree is a tangible demonstration of that commitment."

The release stressed that the President "will continue working to strengthen the Armed Forces and honour the memory of those who gave their lives for the country, reaffirming that defending sovereignty is a cause that unites all Argentines."

It declared: "The fight for the Malvinas will not cease until our flag flies again over the Islands, and this Government is determined to lead that path with concrete actions."
