Emergency services have launched an urgent search to help find a 16-year-old boy who disappeared after getting into difficulty while swimming with friends in a lake. The teenager went missing at around 4pm on Thursday, April 3, while he and some friends were enjoying the warm weather at Crown Lakes, located near the village of Farcet on the outskirts of Peterborough.

Cambridgeshire Police, the fire service and paramedics all scrambled to the scene to help locate the boy using specialist equipment to search the lake. Pictures taken at the scene showed specialist teams searching the body of water for the teenager, including at least two boats while officers on foot patrolled the surrounding area.

There was a strong police presence and number of fire and ambulance vehicles were also spotted parked up nearby to assist with the search at the lake. Crown Lakes is made up of two large flooded brick pits and spans 87 acres of community parkland. It is unclear if the park has been closed off to the public.

Cambridgeshire Police said search teams remained at the scene yesterday evening in a desperate bid to find the boy. A spokesperson for the force said: "We ask that members of the public stay away from the area while this work is carried out. The boy's family are aware."

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue told The Sun: "I can confirm crews were called to Crown Lakes in Farcet around 4pm this afternoon (April 3) to assist our police and ambulance colleagues at an incident."
