This woman just made a bizarre discovery in her own home.

When you're remodelling your home, you don't expect to lift up the floorboards or knock through a wall to find something hidden in the very foundations of your property.

There have been tales in the past of people finding strange notes and even unique treasures left behind by previous property occupants, but it's very uncommon - and can leave you feeling a bit uneasy.

But one woman has made an even stranger discovery in her own home. Forget lost letters or trinkets from a time gone by - this woman believes she may have found human remains in her chimney.

In a viral video posted to TikTok, Jordan Ashleigh said she was cleaning up in her dining room, where she is currently in the process of having her chimney "opened up", when she stumbled across what she believes is a human tooth.

She said she had been in the middle of crafting a chess set out of clay and picked up what she thought was an "odd piece" of her building material - before realising what it really was.

Jordan explained: "I've just found a tooth in my house, and I think it's human. I don't quite know what to do. Do I need to call the police? I was tidying up my mess in the dining room because I'm making a chess set, and I was like 'Oh, that's a funny bit of clay'. That's a tooth! I don't know what type ... it looks like a molar."

She then noted that she's in the process of opening up her fireplace because she needs construction work done on the chimney, so she thinks the tooth may have come from there.

Jordan claimed she regularly has jackdaws that land on her roof, so she can't be sure if the tooth was always in her house or if one of the birds somehow got hold of it and dropped it through her open chimney.

She added: "It's got to have come from in there. The only thing I can think of is there are loads of jackdaws up top; maybe they've brought it and dropped it? But what if there's a person up there? What do I do? There can't be someone up there. It's too narrow. Isn't it?"

Commenters on the post were split. Some told the woman to call the police as a precautionary measure, while others claimed that teeth were sometimes used in old folklore as "protection against fairies", so it may have been left by someone who believed they were keeping their home safe.

What to do if you find human remains in your home or garden

If you're digging in your garden or doing work on your home and you come across bones, it can be a frightening experience. It does not happen often, so people are usually unsure what to do next. But you should immediately call the police, even if you're not certain whether the remains are human.

Speaking to the BBC in 2012, a crime scene manager for Dorset Police said: "It's very simple. You need to stop whatever you're doing and call the police. In the first instance we will liaise with the CID [Criminal Investigation Department], then we will go down to make an initial and brief assessment."

However, they said homeowners can inspect the remains "without being too intrusive", and it's often encouraged to get a good look as police are sometimes called out for "mouldy sticks" and other things that are not bones.
