As millions of UK holidaymakers head to Spain this summer, there’s a lesser-known fine that could cost you up to £25,000 if you’re not careful. With more than 18 million British tourists visiting Spain last year, according to statistics, many might not be aware of the rules around partying in popular hotspots like the Balearics. The Balearics are widely known for their party scene but if want to throw a party or attend a party while on holiday in the islands, you may want to know about this one rule.
A Balearic law is set to implement fines of £1,283 to £2,567 for parties or any activity in tourist homes that cause a nuisance to neighbours between the hours of 11 pm and 8 am. In the case of repeated offences, the fine could even go up to £25,000, the Diario de Mallorca reported.
Josep Castells, a deputy from Més per Menorca expects the bill to be submitted to the plenary session of the Parliament for a vote in the first half of the year, which could mean this would take effect by summer 2025.
The travel team at Slingo has also warned of unlicensed parties if you’re travelling to Majorca or Ibiza this summer, stating that authorities are clamping down on unlicensed or unruly parties and fine to anyone involved in the party including attendees.
These parties are most often taking place in private homes or villas, without safety measures and security.
Slingo stated: "Authorities are closing in on any unlicensed or unruly parties and will issue a fine to anyone involved in the organisation and marketing of the event, as well as attendees. This could result in a fine of over £25,000."
Dom Aldworth, Brand Marketing Coordinator at Slingo, said: "Everyone knows that the British public loves a holiday, and now as the temperatures get warmer, UK tourists will be starting to think about where they want to travel.
"However, before you pack your suitcase, it’s important to educate yourself on any travel rules, especially as new regulations are announced every year. This way, you can enjoy your holiday whilst staying safe and being respectful to local laws.
Other fines and regulations include the sale of alcohol in shops between 9.30pm and 8am in certain areas of Majorca and Ibiza and up to £1,283 for drinking alcohol in the streets.
