After the study was complete, Margate was crowned the champion. But why? Well, the researchers found that the area’s sunlight hours (1,846 a year), moderate rainfall (612.64mm), and superior broadband speeds (210.1 Mbps) made Margate the number one destination for those looking for a home by the sea.

House prices in the area are above the national average, though at £333,000 - the average is £269,000. However, for the south-east of England, Margate is cheap. Average house prices fetch £441k in and around London.

Speaking of London, Margate is well-located for those that want to be able to work a day or two a week in the capital. Trains from the Kentish town take a little over two hours into the centre of the city.
