If you would like to enjoy good weather, a lot of culture, and a place where you can walk to all the main attractions, Germany's capital city could be a great city break. It’s currently shoulder season in Berlin, with highs of 20C in May, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

While the city is approximately 8,981 square kilometres – and far too large to travel everywhere on foot - it certainly has its pockets that are most definitely walkable. Many tourist attractions are close together, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Museum Island, and Alexanderplatz. Brandenburg Gate is considered to be "one of Berlin's most famous landmarks" and was once a memorial of division after the construction of the Berlin Wall.

The official tourism site for Berlin noted: "It was located in the restricted area and could not be visited by East or West Germans."

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the Brandenburg Gate "became a symbol of German unity".

Located in the centre of Berlin on Pariser Platz ("Parisian Square"), it's only a seven-minute walk to Reichstag.

The Reichstag building – with its famed glass dome – has been the seat of the German parliament since 1990, but visitors can explore the rooftop terrace for spectacular views across Tiergarten Park.

Within the vicinity is Museum Island – only half an hour away on foot – where you can stop by shops, relax in cafés and drink in bars along the way.

Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprises five large world-famous museums built under Prussian rulers.

Then, not too far along, around a 10-minute walk away, is Alexanderplatz – a lively square full of restaurants, shops, and markets.

On TripAdvisor, visitors to Berlin have said "it is an amalgamation of lots of areas".

When in one zone, it's fairly easy to get around on foot but, to go from one end of Berlin to the other, public transport is needed.

Thankfully, the public transport system around Berlin is really good, which includes the subway, commuter rail, buses and trams.

For those who would like to see all the sights without having to walk much, there's always the popular hop-on, hop-off tourist bus.
