Prince William and Princess Kate have shared a never-before-seen photograph of their very sweet family member to mark National Pet Day today. Taking to social media on Friday, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a picture of their dog Orla to mark the special day.

In the photograph, Orla - a black cocker spaniel - can be seen staring into the distance. The dog appears to be wet, suggesting it may have gone for a nice swim moments before the pictire was taken. The couple captioned the social media post: "Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay."

The couple are believed to have welcomed Orla into their family in 2020, the same year their beloved dog Lupo died.

It is believed the sweet dog was a puppy of one of Princess Kate's brother's dogs, with James Middleton known for being a big dog lover.

Very few photographs of Orla have been released before, with the first photos of Orla having been released on Princess Charlotte's seventh birhday in a sweet snap of the young royal hugging the beloved family dog.

Since posting this latest picture earlier today, William, 42, and Kate, 43, have received plenty of sweet comments about their dog.

One royal fan wrote on Instagram: "Such a beautiful photo and a beautiful doggy."

Another said: " Orla is such a beautiful dog."

A third said: "Beautiful dog Orla."
