Even the most experienced of cruisers can sometimes forget to do this one key thing onboard. The smaller details make all the difference when you’re on a cruise holiday, and learning the best tips and tricks can make your time onboard much easier. Whether it's important information, must-sees or cruising etiquette, it's never too late or too early to brush up on your knowledge.

Avid cruisers at The Street have advised fellow cruisers on avoiding the biggest mistake many travellers make. According to them, you should tip the hospitality staff “early and often”. They explain that while you don’t need to tip, it's common, as most people tend to pre-book drinks packages, for example, and they believe that tipping helps turn what's already a good service into an “excellent” service. The Street shared: “Bartenders and waiters on cruise ships are almost always excellent and deserve added recognition, and when you give it, they will go above and beyond for you.” 

According to Condé Nast Traveller, lots of cruise lines have automated tipping, allowing passengers to not carry cash. They said: “Cruise lines generally prefer to have tips given electronically to maintain cashless environments onboard their ships, but passengers who do prefer to tip in cash should give cash in the ship’s stated onboard currency.

Another important piece of advice the avid sailor gave was not to try and do everything on the ship, as it’s virtually “impossible”.

Most modern cruise lines have endless activities onboard with so much to see and do, and by trying to immerse yourself in all of it, you may just “stress yourself” out.

Instead, what they suggest is choosing the things you’re most interested in doing ahead of your trip. It’s difficult to squeeze it all in, but it gives you all the more reason to cruise again in the future.

The avid cruisers recommend, when it comes to your cabin, to hold back on spending any money on upgrades such as balconies. In their own words: “Don't waste money.”

With the cruises having so much on offer, many passengers spend little to no time in their rooms. Unless you’re someone planning on a lot of alone time, your best bet is investing that extra money into an excursion or onboard experience.
