Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were back on TV screens on Tuesday, 25 March with a new instalment of BBC Breakfast. The two presenters fronted the show, which took BBC viewers through the latest headlines and news, covering everything from politics to crime.

During one segment, Jon and Sally discussed the white spiral many people had spotted in the sky on Monday evening (24 March). BBC viewers had sent in photographs of the unique view, which is believed to have been caused by the latest SpaceX rocket launch.

Jon and Sally welcomed weather presenter Matt Taylor to the discussion about the sky, and Sally issued Matt a cheeky warning after he made a fun quip.

"Matt's with us this morning! I guess the fact that it was clear skies in a lot of places really helped with the visibility," Jon said about the photographs of the spiral.

Matt responded: "It was beautiful, wasn't it? It's almost like a portal to another dimension, isn't it?"

Sally warned her co-star: "Don't say that, Matt!" with the trio all bursting out into laughter, as Matt attempted to compose himself ahead of his next weather segment.

He then explained: "But yeah, that spiral is caused by the rocket fuel. The rocket was actually rotating at the time, it ejected it. So that's why you get the spiral."

The white cloud-like shape was visible for several minutes in parts of England and Wales, as well as locations in Europe. It is believed to have been caused by leftover fuel from a rocket.

The Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, lifted off in Florida on a classified US government mission on Monday evening.

A reusable rocket, the Falcon 9 releases a payload after launching into space, which then continues its journey into space. The rocket then turns back towards Earth and on its way ejects any leftover fuel which freezes instantly, causing a spiral pattern.
