BBC Radio 2 and other stations have censored an iconic Spice Girls song over a certain line. The soundtrack 'Spice Up Your Life' was released in 1997 by the girl group Spice Girls and quickly became a commercial success, topping the UK Singles Chart that week. This made the Spice Girls the first act to have its first five singles reach number one in the United Kingdom. It also performed well internationally, peaking at Number 18 on the Billboard Top 100 Charts. Despite being an undeniable hit and still being played live on the radio - a new edited version has appeared.

Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 played a censored version of the song, changing the lyrics: "Yellow man in Timbuktu. Colour for both me and you." The edited version had the word "yellow" removed.

A music source reportedly told The Sun: "Spice Up Your Life is a piece of pop music history — it’s baffling that the Beeb have decided to censor it. The [band] are singing in celebration of people from all walks of life. It’s clumsy but not insulting. There haven’t been calls to change it so it’s odd they have decided to do so."

A representative from BBC Radio 2 told the publication that the edit was not made by them and that other UK stations are also playing a censored version of the soundtrack.

In 2019, the girl group reportedly considered replacing the words ‘yellow man’ with ‘happy man’ whilst they were on a reunion tour. However, this was scrapped when they went on stage and performed the usual lyrics.

The lyric was also censored in a Doctor Who episode in 2023 as characters spoke over the song. The band is rumoured to be embarking on another reunion after Victoria didn't take part in the 2019 tour.

In February, Mel C dropped a huge hint about the girl group reunion, saying she's "ready to start planning it," according to Metro.
